While lives have become hectic, it doesn’t mean you need to give up on your beauty time! Who said facials can only be done at a beauty salon? You can achieve the same facial glow and the spa-feel experience right at the comforts of your home.
Sure, you may not be able to completely copy the movements and strokes like your favorite facialist, but, you can attain the much-desired smoothness and glow by re-creating the facial experience at home!
So, why burn a hole in your purse when you can actually do a facial at home?
Without any further ado, let us get started.
But before that, pull your hair behind away from your face, and put on your hairband to avoid any hair strands falling over your face and ruining the whole facial experience!

Cleansing is one of the most important steps in any skincare regime. This will help in maximizing the next steps. The main use of a cleanser is for removing all the dirt, oil, and dead skin cells from your skin.
Top5listicle recommends starting with milk or an oil-based cleanser.
This is the next important step that should not be skipped. Exfoliation helps in removing dead cells from the surface of your skin. The top layer holds a lot of debris and oil and that is removed by exfoliation. It also makes your skin soft and supple.
Another benefit of exfoliation is it helps the ingredients penetrate your skin to achieve maximum benefits of the facial. There are two ways of exfoliation: Physical or chemical-based exfoliation. You can go either way.
We recommend you use both physical and chemical exfoliation for maximum results.
Note: You may do either one depending on your skin type.
Now that you have soft and dead cells-free skin, the next step is to steam. You can use an at-home steamer to do this. If you do not have a steamer at home, you can simply bring a pot of water to boil and cover your shoulders, head, and the bowl with a towel so that the steam reaches your face. Additionally, you can also add a few drops of essential oil to the water.
Make sure that you are not very close to the boiling pot of water to avoid injuries.
Steaming has some wonderful benefits which include opening the pores so that the blackheads on your nose and chin melt a little. This will help the extraction of the blackheads and whiteheads easier.
Steaming also increases blood circulation due to the moisture from steam.
Note: Do not steam for more than 10 minutes.
This is the most painful part of a facial. Personally, I hate this step but it is important to get rid of the blackheads and non-inflamed blemishes by extracting them using a comedone extractor.
During this process, the thick debris made of dead skin cells and oil is carefully pushed up and out of the pore. This leaves behind soft skin.
Note: You may skip this step because if not done correctly, you may get bruises.
This is the most fun step in a facial. Since your pores are open now, it is time for treatment. A treatment mask helps to nourish your skin with all its ingredients.
There are different types of masks in the market:
Choose one that meets your requirements and skin concerns.
Never leave your mask for more than 20 minutes. Remove it with a damp cloth so that all the goodness of the mask is soaked into your skin.
Serums are great for targeted skin concerns. Say your main goal is to defy aging and slow down the aging process, then opt for an anti-aging serum consisting of active ingredients like antioxidants, retinol, niacinamide, etc.
If you are suffering from pigmentation, then go for a serum with Vitamin C
If you are suffering from acne, go for a serum that has anti-bacterial properties like tea-tree or turmeric
As for wrinkles, opt for serums with retinol.

This is the final step. Apply a moisturizer that suits your skin type. Moisturizer’s main purpose is to keep your skin hydrated and smooth and to lock in the results of the facial.
Depending on your skin type, opt for a lightweight lotion or a heavy cream.
Tip: Try to opt for a moisturizer that doesn’t consist of alcohol as it dries your skin quickly.
Now that you have read the steps, you can easily try doing your facial at home. To amplify the whole experience, you can also try improving the ambiance by lighting candles and playing a piece of relaxing music.
